This is needed to make Mercurial read the HGEXTENSIONPATH to detect third-party extensions. It is called HGEXTENSIONPATH and not HG_EXTENSION_PATH to keep it consistent with other environment variables for Mercurial, e.g. HGENCODINGAMBIGUOUS, HGEDITOR ...
